Foal Training Explained: The First Two Years
Mare owners, if you'd like to get your colt or filly started out with a proper foundation, I would suggest the investment of $5.99 in my foal-training course.

An excerpt from "Your Foal: Essential Training for the Young Horse":

Station your foal in the round pen and ask him to face you. Now, the object of this game (here now with the lunge whip and later with your bucket of objects) is to bring up the horse's emotions a little, then lower them before he moves off. If he runs away, you lose points. Try less pressure next time, maybe a less-threatening angle or different body part. Your goal is to find a spot that gets a little rise out of him (a slightly raised head, a slight stiffening, etc.), a spot which gives you the opportunity to calm him back to zero. Raising his emotions slightly and calming him back down wins you a point. (If he does move off, simply reposition him facing you with that now-perfected kiss cue and start again.)
