An excerpt from "Your Foal: Essential Training for the Young Horse":
When the horse is thoroughly bored with his back being scratched, move your attentions to his neck. Then under his neck, down his front leg, over the length of his back, his belly and finally his back legs. Each time begin by rubbing something you've already worked on before moving to the new area. For instance, if he's okay with his shoulder being scratched, start there before trying his neck for the first time. This may initially take several sessions, but once they get the hang of this, they'll park out and just hang out, bored.
